When New Yorker Corinne Jensen sees an ad for a duplex penthouse apartment on Central Park West for $600 a month, she thinks her troubles are over. Corinne’s current apartment is going co-op and Corinne can’t afford to stay and there is also concern that the publishing house she works for is about to be bought out, making her housing crisis even bigger. Corinne answers the ad immediately, but on the day she moves in is surprised to learn that the rental agent has also offered, and accepted the same deal to three other people. In their greed and willingness to think something too good to be true might really be, each of the four maintains their right to the apartment. The self-proclaimed Gang of Four now must decide who gets to keep the apartment.

Four different scenarios are presented, but which one is really what happened? In part two, all is explained, along with how the Gang of Four got even with the slimy rental agent.

Who Gets the Apartment is a cleverly crafted tale that falls short of its expectations and hype. Each of the four tales shows a different personality of each roommate, yet none of the four characters is developed at all. Part two of the book explains which solution the roommates went through and then what they agreed to do to get even with the rental agent.

Overall, the concept of the book is very good, but the individual endings are sketchy in places and the characters are too flat to enjoy. Readers will have a hard time siding with one of the characters, rooting for them to keep the apartment. The pace of the book is fast, but sadly, the content leaves readers wishing for something a little more substantial.
